Her name is Topaz, a present to me.
I wanted a dog, for my birthday you see.
My friends were looking, maybe next week
Today in the village, appointments to keep….
Did some shopping, watched the ferry leave.
Saw a little puppy, searching for a feed.
I was focused on the landing, across the narrows.
Thinking the puppy, was heading for the gallows.
A busy road-she was small-scared-alone.
I was tempted to take her-to my home.
Looking for a friend-but all passed by.
I lost sight of her, and with a sigh.
Reversed the car, through a small gap.
Heard a whimper, followed by a yap.
Opened my door-she stood there happily.
Wagging her tail-hope-lift-and-carry.
I went back to ask, inside the store.
No one wanted her, knew anymore.
My present found me, skinny-hungry-true.
No Great Dane I know, a mongrel too.
So this my addition-was hardly planned.
Marking of black, but she is tan.
So although she’s no Niah, she’s a girl.
I’ll tell you later, how the story unfurls.
Now an update, from yesterday.
Topaz was I.D chipped, and had to say.
Change of status-mongrel to cross breed.
A picture of health, who belongs to me.
